You will be joining a dynamic and forward-thinking council, as a Business Rates Support Officer, where you will become an integral part of our Business Rates team, gaining hands-on experience in the administration, management, and collection of business rates.

About the role

As a Business Rates Support Officer, you will be required to:

  • Maintain accurate records and information systems
  • Support the business rates team with general administrative tasks
  • With the appropriate training provide a first response to digital customer enquiries including social media and webchat
  • Liaise with internal and external customers and partners to resolve problems in a quick and efficient manner both orally and in writing
  • Provide information and advice to businesses in line with an integrated place-based approach
  • With the appropriate training respond to enquiries from business owners and residents regarding business rates
  • Work closely with experienced professionals to build a solid foundation in local business rates administration
  • Open to learning and sharing your knowledge and skills with others, this is a development role it is a requirement to successfully complete the Institutes of Revenues, Ratings and Valuation (IRRV) L4 Revenues Apprenticeship qualification

You need to be inquisitive in nature, self -motivated, enthusiastic and have a flexible approach as no day will be the same. Your style and approach will reflect our values, you will;

  • be passionate about what you do always striving to improve things
  • have the ability to work collaboratively in a team and independently when required
  • be an effective communicator, both written and verbally
  • possess strong attention to detail and excellent organisational skills
  • ideally have achieved level 2 Mathematics and English qualifications (GCSE Level 4) or willing to complete equivalent functional skills qualifications upon appointment
  • competent in using technology and basic software applications such as Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel and Outlook)
  • be willing to learn and develop technical knowledge and skills to support your personal and the service development

Within this role you will complete the Institutes of Revenues, Ratings and Valuation (IRRV) L4 Revenues Apprenticeship qualification.

Please be aware that this post is subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and that you will be required to meet the cost of the DBS check – currently £21.00. The payment for this will be deducted from your first four months’ salary payments at a rate of £5.25 per month. If you do not commence employment for any reason but the DBS has been processed, you will be sent an invoice for the payment of £21.00.
