Cultural Diversity

We’re proud to be home to MediaCityUK, a purpose-built home for creative and digital businesses, this inspirational site for media sits along side the Lowry Theatre a magnificent venue hosting culturally diverse and popular shows.

The city of Salford covers 37 square miles and the five districts of Salford, Eccles, Worsley, Irlam and Cadishead, and Swinton and Pendlebury. Some 246,000 people are proud to call Salford their home.

The Blackfriars, Broughton and Ordsall districts of central Salford are just one minute's walk from the heart of Manchester's shopping and central business districts - just across the River Irwell which runs between the two cities.

History and culture

As one of the world's first industrial cities, Salford is flooded with historic achievements - including the world's first free public library. Worsley village was the site of the transport revolution thanks to the Bridgewater Canal and there is 600 years of history packed into the haunted Tudor house, Ordsall Hall. Salford Museum and Art Gallery is starting an exciting redevelopment programme which will transform it into a national centre for social history.

Set in a magnificent waterside location at the heart of the redeveloped Salford Quays, The Lowry is an architectural flagship with a unique and dynamic identity. It brings together a wide variety of performing and visual arts under one roof. Gallery spaces show the works of LS Lowry alongside contemporary exhibitions. A restaurant, cafes and bars are situated along the southern side of the building, with spectacular waterside views overlooking the expansive Manchester Ship Canal.

It is now a site of pilgrimage for Smiths fans who queue up to have their picture taken under the distinctive green and white sign. "Having worked for the authority for 25 years (and I still can't believe it!) my career has always been in housing and I've worked with many characters and colleagues along the way. I'm very much a people person and proud of working with residents in what they have also achieved.

Working in housing is a demanding role but I take pride in what I have achieved so far, from operational to strategic, it's a role I'm proud to have been a part of from rehousing residents, to stock options."
