Your Role 
 
New Beginnings is a partnership between Dr Jadwiga Leigh and Stockport Family that began in 2018. Through using a trauma informed, holistic approach parents are supported to make positive changes for themselves and their children. Once parents complete the programme, they can use their knowledge to teach others to do the same. The programme works intensively with families who are known to Children’s Social Care for concerns relating to neglect; emotional, physical or sexual abuse so that they can remain as a family unit. We are looking to recruit two qualified social workers, for 12 months in the first instance, to help run and deliver the programme, deliver group work, individual 1:1 key work sessions whilst providing support to families, peer mentors and volunteers. 
 
About You
 
You will be passionate about relationship-based social work, proud of your profession and able to reflect and think creatively about how you can build relationships to make a difference with children and families.

You will have a minimum of two years post qualifying social work experience and have previous experience of the following: 
 
• working with complex families who have suffered trauma, 
• adopting a trauma informed approach in their practice, 
• carrying out parent and child observations, 
• delivering group work/ theory sessions to families, 
• working with parents to help effect positive change, 
• running family day activities and workshops to support children's development.
• writing reports/ assessments and possibly blogs/ articles
• attended conferences and meetings with parents

Stockport Family is currently recruiting for two New Beginnings social workers. In Stockport, our model is different to lots of our neighbours. Our focus is on relationships and we have sought to reduce the number of times that children and families have to re-tell their story. It will be your role to work alongside locality social workers to support and respond to the needs of parents and their children who are working with New Beginnings.
