Your role:

Greater Manchester’s rich musical legacy is known around the world and we are rightly proud of it but our city region’s connections with music go so much deeper than the legends we produce or the shows we promote. Every day, across Greater Manchester, people’s lives are enriched and improved by music and we have countless examples of life-changing projects with residents from all backgrounds, from school children to people with dementia

In response to the continuing and significant changes within the sector and the importance of music to our residents and the economy, vibrancy and international reputation of GM, in 2021, the Mayor of Greater Manchester established the Greater Manchester Music Commission (GMMC), a group of industry experts working to support and promote music in Greater Manchester.  This is an exciting role that combines policy and strategy development with on-the-ground delivery, working with GMCA’s Culture & Night Time Economy teams to coordinate and support the work of GMMC to achieve tangible outcomes in the priorities set by the Commission.

About you:

We are seeking an exceptional individual to work with the Greater Manchester Music Commission to expand support for music across our city region across a number of thematic areas including routes to market, spaces and places, music and wellbeing, education and talent and diversity as well as supporting GMMC to better communicate its work.  We are looking for someone who has experience of working within a music setting, who can bring expertise and connections that will help GMMC and the wider Culture and Night Time Economy team to develop and deliver policy, events and programming. We are looking for someone who will have the ability to think creatively, act collegiately, coordinate, manage and minute meetings and write succinctly as well as building and maintaining strong trusted relationships with public and private sector colleagues locally, nationally and internationally.

About us:

As an employer, the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) is made up of a number of key Greater Manchester strategic functions and service providers including; Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS); Waste and Resources; Environment; Work and Skills; Research; Public Sector Reform; Police, Crime and Criminal Justice; Homelessness; the Greater Manchester Ageing Hub and the Commissioning Hub.

We value the diversity of our employees, and aim to recruit a workforce which reflects our diverse communities across Greater Manchester. We welcome applications from all suitably qualified individuals, irrespective of people's age, disability, Trans status and Non-binary identity, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex and sexual orientation. We have guidance in place to ensure that all applicants are treated fairly and consistently at every stage of the recruitment process, including the consideration of reasonable adjustments for people who have a disability.

Hybrid working

This role is part of GMCA’s hybrid working scheme. As part of our commitment to ‘Build Back Fairer’ in Greater Manchester following the Covid-19 pandemic, we have evolved our management methods by trusting and empowering staff to deliver their work in the best way that suits the business and their individual needs, and supports health and wellbeing. Our hybrid working policy sets out a flexible approach, combining attendance at our [Manchester city centre office / Fire and Rescue service HQ in Swinton / other location] with remote working, typically from home; the location of work is primarily dictated by the needs of the business: ‘Do what is right for you and the business on that day’. If appointed to the role you will work with your manager to agree and regularly review the best working pattern for you, your team and your work.
