Jade undertook a degree apprenticeship in social work after 12 years as an education welfare officer.

What do you love about being a social worker?

“The children and young people we work with need a voice – they need somebody to be their advocate.

“We listen to what the child says and what they want to happen – involving them in the decision-making.

“If we can change things for the better that’s a massive sense of achievement because we want children who are living with their parents, guardians or carers in a happy home environment where they are able to thrive, develop and achieve their potential.”

What’s good about working in Bury?

“Bury is a small local authority, we are like a family, very caring.

“We get support in our first qualified year to do the tasks we have to do and we get time for reflective practice.

“It won’t be any easier than anywhere else but you will be looked after in Bury, you will have a team that will take care of you.”
