To give you a flavour of how we work in Rochdale and our team, we caught up with one of our practice managers, Steph.

“I have worked for Rochdale for the last 18 months in the child protection and care proceedings team. I came from a different neighbouring local authority where I was also a practice manager. The role offers me the opportunity to work with skilled and passionate social workers, it enables me to shape and influence good practice and achieve positive outcomes for the families we work with.

"As a manager in Rochdale I am given trust and empowered to make decisions for my team, but also have the support of senior managers when I need this. I also work with four other practice managers where we are all encouraged and do work closely together. We meet each week and support each other with any difficulties.

"Relational practice is really encouraged in Rochdale, working with social workers with respect and understanding in order for this to filter to the families we work with. Reflective supervision is key in Rochdale with time spent on cases to really understand the risks and how best to create safe and successful family units.

"The team is a calm and positive environment where risk is well managed with lots of communication and support offered to me as a manager and in turn support provided to the social workers, which creates a really safe and supportive work environment.”
